Exploring NewArc.ai in the Fashion Design Process

Today, I had the opportunity to experiment with NewArc.ai, curious to see how it could expedite the creation of clothing ideas. This was purely a test to evaluate how well this AI tool might integrate into the fashion industry's design workflow.

As a designer, the ability to swiftly generate and present new concepts to management and merchandising teams is crucial. The ‘Ugly Truth’ is that for at least a third of the design season, the entire business makes critical judgments based on sketches, whether subpar or outstanding, that may or may not be realised into physical products as illustrated. My goal with NewArc.ai was to see if it could efficiently help create a batch of clothing ideas that would effectively convey the themes and product look and feel, in theory.

How does NewArc.ai work?

Below are a few images relating to the interface and the basics. You can upload a sketch or an image and then provide a prompt (a precise description of what you want to see). Once you have an image you like, you can go back in and edit it. To be transparent, I did choose to edit some pieces in Adobe Photoshop. However, it would have taken me ages if I had only relied on Adobe. NewArc gave me a 'Giddy Up' in my Design Step.

The process proved to be quite intuitive. I uploaded my initial sketches and provided prompts on the site (it does suggest a prompt and you can select to use it or make your own), and it produced a variety of designs. Within this tool setting, NewArc allows you to adjust the AI's creativity, which directly influences the output. This quick turnaround enabled me to visualise and refine these ideas, making them ready for hypothetical approval.

NewArc’s strength lies in its parameters and amendment tools, which are already advantageous.

I can foresee these tools evolving, providing designers with significantly more control in the near future. This development is crucial because once these tools reach the sophistication of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, the designs will be even more precise and aligned with the designer's vision.

Although this experiment did not involve actual management or merchandising teams, it clearly demonstrated the potential of AI tools to enhance the fashion design workflow. It suggested that the tool could conceptually make the design and communication process faster and more efficient.

In conclusion

I am genuinely excited about the possibilities this technology offers to the industry and look forward to exploring further applications in our design processes. It shows impressive promise and is already useful today, and I am eager to see how it could become a game-changer in the future.

Over the coming weeks, we will invite our members to showcase what they can do with it, as designers are not all the same, and we are bound to uncover some amazing tricks and hacks. Exciting times ahead!
